Redevelopment of garages site on Ashburnham Place - update

Image
Hello everyone - I am sharing responses below from Chris Horn, developer, to questions raised at our recent meeting to discuss the redevelopment of this site. First of all I can confirm that each of the three properties is detached and is two storeys high and that none has car parking provided as part of the scheme. Our expectation in common with standard practice at the Royal Borough of Greenwich is that future residents at the three address points will also be permanently excluded from joining any local CPZ’s. There was an interesting discussion about whether the site should be gated. My recollection is that there was some ambivalence over this in previous discussions with the council. However, I took away from the meeting a unanimous preference amongst local residents that there should be a gate and our application will now specify this. There were a number of questions relating to potential impacts on flora and fauna. Our assessments have found no animals living or nesting on the s...

Poems of Peace - And War: Tuesday 11 November, West Greenwich Library, 7-7:30pm

Image
Hello everyone - sharing the below on behalf of Mick Delap: This is an  appropriate title for Remembrance Day, and a sad reminder that it's impossible to think of peace without thinking of war. An amazing line-up of poets , including local ATA poet Mick Delap,  and West Greenwich resident Lorraine Mariner,  will be reading their own work,  but also key poems about conflict by a wide range of other poets.  There  will be live music, with interludes on harp by the fabulous Lucia Foti .   Admission free.  Interval refreshments.  The poets are the core group of the local Nevada Street Writers , founded by Mick Delap in the eponymous street down by Greenwich Theatre in 2009. They are still going strong!  You will hear the different voices of Mick Delap, Malene Engelund, Lorraine Mariner, and Jocelyn Page,  reading their own choices, as well as what  other members of the Nevada Street group who cannot be present on the night...

Local discussion - planning application for Ashburnham Place: 5 November, 6:30pm, Ashburnham Arms

Image
Hello everyone, Please join us on Wednesday evening, 6:30pm in the back room of the Ashburnham Arms for a conversation with Chris Horn, client project lead, to present the revised application to build three houses to replace the garages on Ashburnham Place (opposite St. Marks Centre). Originally submitted as a larger development to construct five houses, and with planning permissions refused, this is being brought back as a smaller scheme following advice from the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Hannah Cornett, the architect involved with the planning, will also be in attendance. We look forward to seeing as many people as possible to discuss this significant building application within the Triangle. Do aim to arrive early to get your seat (and drinks). Snacks will be made available as well.

New restaurant opening: El Alquimista, 2 Stockwell Street

Image
In case you hadn't heard, a new restaurant has opened near Royal Greenwich Park! As described by the website Square Meal: " El Alquimista  specialises in Latin fusion cuisine, drawing inspiration from across South America with a modern twist. The menu is packed with colourful, flavourful dishes designed for sharing." Their Greenwich location had its soft-launch opening on Friday night with a partial menu unveiled for the next two weeks (while they get accustomed to working in the new space) until the full menu goes live. On a whim, we booked dinner on Saturday night - and while the partial menu is limited, the food was beautifully cooked and prepared. The staff were very welcoming and the chefs were interested in feedback on their dishes.

Met Engage: help the Met Police respond to local crime

Image
At the request of area residents and our Neighbourhood Safety Officer, PC Andrew Nash, I am writing to promote the police's new Met Engage platform which enables residents to stay in touch with local officers and to report crimes more easily. One resident recently experienced the theft of an expensive package from the lower front garden area of their home, though fortunately their Ring camera snapped the thief and ultimately police were able to catch him (he pleaded guilty last week and will be sentenced in September).  This resident initally found it challenging to get in touch with the right police team working their case (a problem I had two years ago in relation to a harassment matter). PC Nash's recommendation is that AT residents to sign up to Met Engage - noting that the more people who join, the more effective the platform becomes. Having signed up myself, the platform allows you to create settings that alert you to news, area developments, specific types of crime, cha...
