The ATA fundraises for Shelter!

Image
Hello everyone - a number of you participated in the ATA Christmas caroling activities which raise money each year for the Shelter charity. At the most recent of these events, £581 was raised by Carol Singing, the Quiz and a contribution made by the Ashburnham Arms. Below please find a copy of the note from Shelter in response to the ATA donation. A big thank-you to everyone who participated, and an open invitation to participate in these festivities later in 2026. To the Ashburnham Triangle Association from Shelter  Thank you for your kind donation of £581 and for supporting Shelter. With your incredible gift, we can – and will – make a real difference. Families experiencing homelessness face months if not years in unfit temporary accommodation, with little or no support. Many are uprooted from their communities, separated from loved ones, schools and essential support networks. No family should face ho...

Next local history group talk: 14 May, 7:30pm

Image
Hello everyone - a  reminder that the next local history group talk will be on  Thursday 14 May at 7:30pm  in the lovely West Greenwich Library.  Many of you will know Mick Delap whose presentation is on the following theme: Who WAS who in West Greenwich? The why and the how of remembering local figures. And who is missing? From blue plaques to street names, and statues to schools, Mick will talk about who is remembered and how... and asking you, do you agree?    Mick will suggest, for the Ashburnham Triangle, the names of figures he feels have been left out of our own local story. There is, for instance, a great lack of women and non-establishment figures. Maybe you have a local name you would like to add to Mick’s list - if so, please tell us on the night! Mick hopes we can end the evening with a straw poll vote on who we would most like to see the Ashburnham Triangle remembering - perhaps as a first step to adding a new chap...

Hello everyone - sharing on behalf of Barbara Reid: The next local history group talk will be on Thursday 26 February at 7.30pm in the lovely West Greenwich Library.  Our speaker is David Whittaker. Many of you will remember David’s last talk on the lost pubs of Greenwich. This talk is on W.A. Wilson, Temperance Brewer.  David says:   The Wilson family lived on Egerton Drive between about 1914 and 1954. William Anthony Wilson founded the company in Nottingham, moving to London and opening his works at Eastney Street in East Greenwich. The talk includes information on the family, the factory and the drinks it produced, and considers these in the context of the temperance movement in Greenwich. Thanks to all of you who came to Lynn Dixon’s fascinating talk in November and I want to say a big thank you to all our speakers who volunteer their time and research so that these talks are available for everyone to attend for free. ...
