Reported in Tuesday's Evening Standard : 'Police were sent to a four-star boutique hotel yesterday after a man claimed someone was in his room armed with a gun and knife. Officers arrived at the Mercure Hotel’s reception area in Catherine Grove, Greenwich, after receiving the call. Police tweeted that a man suffering a “mental health crisis” in the lobby was carrying a knife and had to be disarmed by officers.' Sharp-eyed locals will note that the picture used by the paper isn't of the Mercure. The same picture was used in News Shopper , who also decided that the Mercure is in Deptford rather than Greenwich.

David Scales/Tina Pugh ATA Security Hub A Greenwich West Safer Neighbourhoods Police meeting was held on Wednesday 3rd February 2015. We attend these meetings on behalf of the ATA along with other Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators, Councillors, Council Officers and members of the Safer Neighbourhoods Police team. Fortunately no major issues for the Ashburnham Triangle were identified during this period, however there has been an increase in thefts from motor vehicles from December – January including damage to cars in Devonshire Drive and Egerton Drive on Boxing Day.  Two residential burglaries were reported in Langdale Road and Ashburnham Grove; still this is very much a decrease on the last available figures and a couple of arrests have also been made of known criminals operating in the area. The ATA has been made aware of an application for an alcohol and entertainment licence at the above premises. Imogene Russell, 19 January 2016  Simon Barrs, our new planning rep, writes: “There are two current planning applications to bring to Triangle residents’ attention. First, the Mercure Hotel on Catherine Grove wants to construct another glass box to create four bedrooms on the second floor above the entrance. Here is what the glass box would look like and  what the box over the Mercure door would look like Further details can be found on the Council’s Online Planning Portal    Public Consultation Expires on the 26th January 2016.

The second proposal is for the demolition of twenty garages off Ashburnham Place, between Langdale Road and Greenwich South Street, to be replaced with four x four-storey, four-bedroom mews houses. Further details can be found on the  Council’s Online Planning Porta l.  Public consultation expires on February 9th 2016. Tina Pugh,  4 November 2015   This is what greeted local residents this morning at the Ashburnham Place end of Play Street (Ashburnham Retreat). This is the second time in a matter of weeks where a dismantled cupboard has been dumped. Dumping waste illegally is a serious criminal offence that can carry a very large fine and can ruin the appearance of our neighbourhood. An offender can even be sent to prison. It is also an offence to allow fly-tipping to take place. What is fly-tipping? Fly-tipping is the illegal dumping of rubbish or bulky items on land not licensed to receive it. It can be dangerous to health, it pollutes land and costs significant amounts of public money, which could be better spent elsewhere, to clear away.
