The annual Amnesty book sale at the Church of the Ascension, Dartmouth Row, SE10 8BF, is from 9am to 5pm, admission free. The church is full of really good books to choose from. Don't be one of those (very few) people who hide a pile of selected books early in the day and then come back for them when prices drop just before closing time! The next craft session in the back room of the Ashburnham Arms 25 Ashburnham Grove SE10 8UH will be from 8pm to 10pm later today, Thursday 15th June. People bring their own work, help each other with their projects, and have a good old chat.

The cut off date for registering is Wednesday 14th June. It looks like bad news for Southeastern passengers as recent “temporary” service cuts and slower journeys introduced due to the London Bridge rebuild could be made permanent after completion of the work in 2018. Over the past couple of years I’ve covered the London Bridge rebuild program which has caused much upheaval for Southeastern passengers across south east London. I’ve reported on cuts between London terminals and Deptford, Greenwich, Maze Hill and Westcombe Park, which were particularly severe in the evening peak. In August 2016 these changes occurred: During the period from 17:00-19:00 service levels of 13 trains from London Cannon Street to Greenwich reduced to 8 trains. A 38% cut. The talk on the Triangle's history today, Saturday 10th June in the Ashburnham Arms, has proved more popular than expected, so, to avoid a crush, Mick Delap will give two talks, one at 5pm, and a second one at 6pm. And Neil Sinclair will conduct two guided tours, at 6pm and 7pm. The 5pm talk is fully subscribed. There is still room at the 6pm talk, with the 7pm tour to follow. If you are booked in at 5pm, you can change to the later one if you like. If you are turning up on spec, turn up at 6pm.

Artist's Talk Reminder  - Scenes from Post-War London 1946 - 1960; The Early Paintings of Terry Scales Greenwich Artist Terry Scales will be giving a talk about his work at West Greenwich Library on Friday 9th June, 3 - 4 pm.   Terry will recollect the stories behind his paintings with titles such as  'Butlers Wharf', 'Prefab Village', 'Our Gang', 'Canal Scene Deptford', 'Crossing London Bridge' and 'Night Watchman' etc, inspired by his experience of working as a Stevedore (Docker) on the wharves between Tower Bridge and Woolwich in the 1950's - 60's. Bazalgette Tunnel Limited (trading as Tideway) have given us notice of scheduled works, as follows: Pathway works From Monday 12 to Wednesd ay 14 June, we wi ll be working within the pathway between Norman Road and the Ha’Penny Hatch Bridge.  This is to heighten part of the fencing adjacent to the Network Rail viaduct with a mesh material and install a gate.  The pathway will remain open to users at all times. Single lane closure - Norman Road From  28 June to 1 September  there will be a single lane closure on part of Norman Road in order to do work on the DLR viaduct which crosses Norman Road and the pumping station.  This is to support the structure throughout construction activities. Open day at Dartmouth Village community space, May 23rd A community space, café and shop  could open where there used to be an antiques shop at the top of Blackheath Hill, if local residents can raise £13,375 by the end of June. After that, t he shop will no longer be protected from being developed into flats. There is a lot of space there - more rooms than the one shown in the picture. The residents, headed up by Rachel, Alan, Simon and Matt, are open to suggestions on how to use the space. They want to run it as a mutual benefit society for the community, and say that many local people 'are deeply committed to making this happen.' They are raising money by a share offer: people can become members of the shop's Society by pledging to buy shares.
