Do you want to do more for the environment?

Image
The ATA Green Hub is transforming into the “Environment and Gardening Hub”. We will encourage residents to take action to deal with the Climate Crisis as well as continuing with the community gardening. We hope that more people will take part in environmentally friendly activities locally and, more importantly, will urge the Government and Council to do more. The first thing we are planning is to plant as many trees as possible on National Tree Planting Day 30 November. Did you know that a mature tree can absorb 48 lbs of carbon dioxide per year? So tree planting is a really positive thing we can do to start dealing with the Climate Crisis. Would you like to plant a tree in your garden? If so we can help by ordering and planting it. The ATA will pay for the compost and stakes. In addition we will be planting trees in public spaces on Devonshire Drive. We will need lots of people. Would you like to help plant trees on 30 November? We are also planning to: Continue to work on the...

Scam Alert from Royal Borough Greenwich Trading Standards

Image
Please be aware that if you receive a telephone call from mobile number 07405 489347 and they purport to be a Police Officer or Trading Standards Officer calling regarding recent works carried out at your property this is a SCAM . The Police and Trading Standards always advise businesses or residents to check IDs of callers. If they do not have ID or you are suspicious of an ID they show you, ask them to wait whilst you verify their credentials. You can then check if they are a genuine Royal Greenwich member of staff by telephoning the Royal Greenwich Council main switchboard number on 020 8854 8888 and ask to be put through to the department they are claiming they are from. For the Police, Call 101 the non-emergency number to report. Tina Pugh Police Liaison /ATA Security

Halloween in the Ashburnham Triangle

Following the success of past years we are once again organising for our children to be able to safely celebrate Halloween by trick or treating in the Ashburnham Triangle on Thursday, October 31st between 5.30 and 7.30pm. Participation is of course absolutely voluntary. We do hope that your children would like to join in to trick or treat and, whether you have children or not, that you would like to give out sweets. For safety and hygiene please only give out wrapped or packaged sweets. If you are interested, on Halloween night please place a pumpkin or sign by your front door or window so that the children know at which houses to stop, and so that anyone not interested in participating is not inconvenienced.

Image
This is not quite a Triangle matter, but probably of interest to many residents: Transport for London (TFL) has begun a 10-week public consultation on the proposed extension of the Bakerloo Line which would extend the line from Elephant & Castle to Lewisham. The consultation can be found at https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/tube/bakerloo-extension/   along with information on why the extension is needed, the new capacity it would provide and the area’s that it will open up (notably, according to the London Borough of Lewisham, one area being Deptford Creek and Greenwich Riverside). There is also a public exhibition this Saturday 19th October between 10;00 and 16:00 at Lewisham Shopping Centre, Central Square, Molesworth Street, London SE13 7EP where you can find out more about the proposals and talk to members of the project team.

Complaint made against the ATA - please may we solicit your opinion?

Dear Ashburnham Triangle Residents, As you know we held our annual ATA Summer street party on 7th Sept. It was a great success and it seemed a good time was had by all. That is with the exception of one resident living in Ashburnham Place. This resident has written an official letter of complaint to The Environmental Health, Pollution & Residential Services with a complaint. “Complaint of noise nuisance - raised voices, shouting, screaming and loud music from a street party organised by the Ashburnham Triangle Association.” Under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 RBG are obliged to investigate. Hence this post and call for your feedback and input into the complaint. We believed the noise was within acceptance levels for a Saturday afternoon public gathering. What is interesting is that noise is completely subjective and can only be defined by a decibel test which the Greenwich Council environmental team could have done on the day. However the complainant decided she would wa...

Safer Neighbourhoods September Update

Image
Following the recent Safer Neighbourhoods Panel meeting the main point of concern is the dramatic increase in phone snatching. Our local police are organising for the above Met Police poster to be displayed in shop windows, cafes etc following the sudden rise in crime. Groups of youths have been seen in and around Cutty Sark Gardens wearing hoodies and puffa coats even in hot temperatures and targeting lone females for their phones. Most phone snatching has been on foot or bicycle. With the new student year about to commence phone snatching is predicted to continue with the town centre and Thames Path being the most vulnerable areas. This is what the police advise: Criminals are using mopeds and bicycles to snatch mobiles and handbags in this area, often riding up behind the victim and even mounting the pavement to grab them. Police are carrying out operations to tar...
