Greenwich to go Car Free

Image
To celebrate Car Free Day the beautiful historic Greenwich Town will be opened up for a Saturday of fun for all ages. Expect food, drink, music, games and activities on clean, green streets...and no cars! Why is it happening? The Royal Borough of Greenwich wants to reduce motor vehicle traffic through Greenwich town centre to reduce air pollution and make the streets safer for walking and cycling. The council will monitor traffic and air quality to see what impact Car Free Day has in the area.  Council staff will be on hand to listen to your views so you can help shape their plans. How it works King William Walk and College Approach will be closed to motor vehicles from 6am until 11.30pm. The event will run from 12noon until 6pm. Nelson Road and Creek Road will become two way and marshals will be on site to guide and direct traffic. Parking will be suspended on the affected roads. Change to ATA gardening calendar

Unfortunately we will be short of gardeners on 29 September, so we need to cancel the session and change the October session from the 27th to earlier in the month. The next session is Saturday 13 October at ten.

New proposals for consultation for the future of The Magistrates Court

Following two previous public consultations and no doubt various meetings with the Local Authority the owners of The Magistrates Court London Hotel Group appear to have dropped their previous architects and communications team and started afresh with a new design team. As such they are inviting local residents to two public exhibitions and presentations with question and answer opportunities to review their designs. The exhibitions are taking place on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th September and will take place in the waiting area at The Magistrates Court as before – further information can be found clicking here . This is a completely separate matter to the current Planning Application that has been submitted by the DoubleTree Hotel on Catherine Grove. Any separate feedback you might have can be directed to our Planning Rep Simon Barrs at si_barrs@hotmail.com which will help form a response on behalf of the Ashburnham Triangle Association.

Battle of the Hotels?

Image
Whether in retaliation to proposals to redevelop the Magistrates Court into a 300 plus room hotel or just to annoy the neighbours even more, the owners of the now DoubleTree Hilton Hotel (Formerly The Mercure and then The Greenwich) on Catherine Grove in the Triangle have submitted yet another Planning Application to further redevelop the hotel to create an additional 42 rooms over an undercroft car park to the rear of the site. The proposal (yet again another glass box topped extension) will have a hugely detrimental effect on the neighbouring properties on Burgos Grove whose rights of light will be affected by this development due to the proposed location and height resulting in an over massing of the rear of the site. The applicants Daylight and Sunlight Review prepared by CHP Surveyors supports this view by concluding that reductions in daylight experienced by a number of windows within the neighbouring properties would probably not be acceptable. Whilst CHP have offered alte...

More music at the Street Party

Joining the Street Party again this year is the HAROLD FERGUS BAND. Greenwich locals the Harold Fergus Band are influenced by The Beatles, America, John Martyn and Oasis. Their music is a blend of melodic pop and folk, with their gentle niche being the way they blend catchy hooks with traditional folk. The music makes for easy listening whether you are being lulled by one of the band’s original songs or by a unique cover of a classic hit.
