Coronavirus Scams

Image
Be aware of various Coronavirus scams.   Fraudsters are sending out Coronavirus themed phishing emails in an attempt to trick people into opening attachments or revealing personal information. Full details from Action Fraud here: Action Fraud - Coronavirus Scam Locally, it has been reported there are scammers pretending to be from the Health Authorities and are going door to door carrying out mass testing for the Coronavirus. Please note there is NO mass testing and these fraudsters are just trying to get into homes. P lease inform all elderly friends, neighbours and family members to be wary and not to let anyone they do not know into their home. Remember, if in doubt, keep them out.  I've also been asked to confirm the authenticity of the volunteering form from Greenwich Council. I can confirm this is legitimate and it is once again below. Also, you can sign up to Greenwich Council for regular updates on the Coronavirus.  Link also below. Royal Borough of ...

Burglary Alert

Image
There has been another burglary in the Triangle between the hours of 5pm on 7th November and 7am on the 8th November in Devonshire Drive. Entry was gained once again via the basement sash window. The police are asking all home owners with sash windows, particularly basement sash windows, to ensure suitable locks are installed. They have also suggested to install and display window alarms. One particular alarm that has been recommend is the GHB Window Alarm which can easily be purchased via amazon and is very affordable. See link  here . GHB window alarm The more obstacles for a burglar, the more likely they are to leave your home alone.  Tina Pugh ATA Security / Police Liaison Email:  ata.secureteam@gmail.com Emergency dial 999 Non Emergency dial 101 Greenwich Safer Neighbourhood Team: 020 8284 5494 (not 24 hour) Email:  westgreenwich.snt@met.police.uk

Safer Neighbourhoods November Update

Image
Within The Triangle In the last two months burglaries within the Triangle are once again on the increase. We’ve had 8 burglaries in this period. One was an outbuilding and another was at St Marks Hostel but the remaining burglaries are all residential houses with the main access point being the basement sash window. Last year the Triangle was particularly targeted and with this sudden rise in just our area - the rest of West Greenwich has had hardly any burglaries reported in comparison - our Safer Neighbourhood Team are going to roll out SmartWater again to residents who did not receive a kit earlier this year. If the police issue the kits they are completely free and there is no ongoing fee. I highly recommend anyone to obtain a kit if offered as they are a preventative measure against crime and if you are the unfortunate victim of a burglary your possessions can be easily identified and given back if recovered by the Police. The Ashburnham Triangle is the first area in We...

Safer Neighbourhoods September Update

Image
Following the recent Safer Neighbourhoods Panel meeting the main point of concern is the dramatic increase in phone snatching. Our local police are organising for the above Met Police poster to be displayed in shop windows, cafes etc following the sudden rise in crime. Groups of youths have been seen in and around Cutty Sark Gardens wearing hoodies and puffa coats even in hot temperatures and targeting lone females for their phones. Most phone snatching has been on foot or bicycle. With the new student year about to commence phone snatching is predicted to continue with the town centre and Thames Path being the most vulnerable areas. This is what the police advise: Criminals are using mopeds and bicycles to snatch mobiles and handbags in this area, often riding up behind the victim and even mounting the pavement to grab them. Police are carrying out operations to tar...

Two Stabbings in Greenwich Town Centre

Image
An incident took place in  Greenwich Town Centre at around 3:30pm this afternoon, Tuesday 27th August .  Officers were called to Norman Road in relation to a stabbing and then to the Cutty Sark in relation to a male holding a knife up to a female's throat. Police attended and the male suspect was tasered and arrested. The full details are still being gathered by the police but at present I can confirm there were two female victims, one of whom is the mother of the suspect. The mother has stated the suspect has mental health issues. Enquiries continue and a crime scene remains in place. If you have any information regarding this incident please contact either our Safer Neighbourhood Police or dial 101. Car crime in the Triangle on the rise

Image
Car crime within Greenwich has been rising steadily over the last year and sadly we have noticed a dramatic rise within the Triangle. Over the past couple of weeks there has been numerous reports of damage to vehicles in Guildford Grove, Langdale and Catherine Grove where cars have been broken into and items stolen from inside. Last week, between the hours of 20:00 and 06:50 on 14/15th August a BMW X5 was stolen from Guildford Grove. The key for this vehicle must have been cloned as there was no smashed glass where the vehicle was originally parked. High spec vehicles are desirable and are stolen to order. Car keys need to be kept away from the front of the house and ideally stored in a “car key blocker case". (click here for link to best signal blockers from car buyer) . If the signal is blocked it makes stealing your car that much harder.   A local resident has repeatedly captured images on their home security camera of potential car thieves. They walk in parallel down ...

Safer Neighbourhoods July Update

Image
We welcome Sergeant Iain O’Hara to the Safer Neighbourhoods Team who joined on 2nd June. Iain has been with the Metropolitan Police for over 19 years and specifically requested to join a Safer Neighbourhood Team in his next role. We look forward to building on our close relationship with the SNT Team. The rest of the Safer Neighbourhood Team remains unchanged: Police Constable John Moody Police Constable Jaime Welch - currently on maternity leave but returning 24th August PCSO Henry Lawton Outside the Triangle There has been numerous reports of bag and phone snatching near the Cutty Sark boat. Police advise not to walk and talk on your phone around this area and to be vigilant of your surroundings if you do need to make/take a call.  There are new beggars within the Town Centre. Please note that many of these beggars are known to police and are not actually homeless.  Police advise NOT to give money to anyone begging. Drug dealing and drug taking...

A local resident captured video footage of a white male checking car doors on Sunday 23 June at approx 01:32 . This information has been forwarded to the police. The description of the individual involved: Hair: Short dark Top: Light long sleeved jacket Bottom: Dark shorts Shoes: White trainers Build: Slim Ethnicity: White Sex: Male Other details: Holding a light or mobile phone in his right hand Theft from car vehicles is on the increase especially within the Triangle. Make sure you are not a victim. Lock your vehicle; close all windows and NEVER leave anything on display.

Safer Neighbourhoods Update

Image
Sadly we have to say goodbye to Sergeant Diane Hill who has been an integral part of the Safer Neighbourhoods Police Team for the last 4 years in West Greenwich. Her most recent initiative helped bring SmartWater to the Triangle. Diane has been promoted to Inspector and is transferring to Swanley in Kent to the First Response Team. We wish her all the best in her new role.   Sergeant Hill will be replaced by Sergeant Ian O’Hara on 2 June.   The rest of the Safer Neighbourhood Police Team remains unchanged: Police Constable John Moody Police Constable Jaime Welch - currently on maternity leave but returning late Aug/Sept PCSO Henry Lawton Over the last two months burglary figures  are down - we have five reported incidents in the Triangle. Motor vehicle crime, unfortunately,  continues  to rise throughout the borough. There have been numerous reports of thefts from vehicle and stolen vehicles - mostly mopeds and motorbikes - from within the Trian...

Safer Neighbourhoods Update

Image
Burglaries within the Triangle have dramatically reduced over the last couple of months. Although this is good news, the police are unsure as to why and where the culprits have moved onto. Our area is still under surveillance by the Police so please continue to be vigilant, double bolt your front door at night, don’t advertise when you will be away i.e. on social media.   Some good news regarding a burglary in Langdale Road last year which was captured on a Ring Doorbell Video. The individual was caught, charged with receiving stolen goods and Class A Cocaine and has been charged with 25 months imprisonment. Proof that home camera security really does work. One area for real concern within the Triangle is the increase of drug dealing which is blatantly taking place at anytime of the day. It’s very hard for the police to tackle this problem so they have asked for our help. If you see any individual(s) passing packages and money exchanged can you send a description of that...
